Press Room

More than 5 million Americans currently have Alzheimer's disease. That statistic could triple to 16 million by 2050 as baby boomers join the over-65 age group.

To help address this growing public health issue, the Alzheimer's Disease Screening Discussion Group (ADSDG) was formed. The ADSDG recently conducted a survey. The goal was to understand public perceptions, attitudes, and knowledge about the disease. It is also evaluating the public's willingness to seek out screening if symptoms are suspected.

This panel of experts in Alzheimer's disease and senior health came together in 2007. As a group, they discussed the value of AD screening and detection. They also issued a consensus statement with recommendations. The goal is to help patients and caregivers cope with Alzheimer's disease. Both the survey and the ADSDG were sponsored by Eisai Inc. and Pfizer Inc.
